A Look at High-Performance Glass from Renewal by Andersen®

As your local window contractor, Renewal by Andersen® of Knoxville is helping homeowners make their homes more energy-efficient through the windows we install. While our use of Fibrex® makes our window frames durable and ensures energy efficiency, it’s the glazing we use that make it as energy-efficient as possible.

A Look at High-Performance Glass from Renewal by Andersen®

In this post, we discuss the key elements behind the energy efficiency of our High-Performance™ Low-E4® glass.

Glass Coatings

Each high-performance Low-E4 glass we install features a specially designed coating system that utilizes state-of-the-art coating technology. Metal oxide coatings are applied on the glass exterior to make the surface easier to clean and help reduce water spotting up to 99% when activated by sunlight.

On the inside, the glass has a light, spectrally selective multilayer low-emissivity coating that has more layers than the standard Low-E coated glass. This lets in sunlight while keeping its harmful elements out, while also maximizing visible light transmittance.

Double Glazing

The glass we use for our replacement windows optimizes the space between the two glass panes for the best thermal performance. Two glass panes are better than one, and we optimize the width of the air space between the two so that there are no diminishing returns when it comes to energy efficiency.

Stainless Steel Spacer

We use a low-conductivity spacer that has high resistance to heat transfer. Unlike the commonly used aluminum, ours is made from stainless steel. This allows us to make the spacer thinner while remaining more durable than an aluminum spacer. A thinner spacer also conducts less energy, giving the glass greater overall energy efficiency.

Argon Glass Blend and Dual Seal

We use argon glass blend for greater energy efficiency, compared to simply air. We seal this within the glass with our dual seal, which also secures the two panes of glass. This seal also removes the Low-E coating around the embedded glass edge so that the sealant has a clean surface to adhere to.

As your local Renewal by Andersen® window company, we fit each of our high-quality windows with efficient glass systems for maximum energy efficiency.
